Number One Decongestant
Herbalist Jeanne Burgess put together this top selling decongestant formula some years ago for a person with a very serious lung virus that no other formula would touch. This formula works for severe lung congestion, lungs filled with fluid or mucus, pneumonia and deep cough. It also works well for allergies and has a benefical effect on the digestive system.
The product is sold under the trade name AL-J and is a top selling herbal product. Here's what it contains.
Fenugreek is a mucilaginous herb whose seed has an affinity for lymphatic and respiratory systems. This herb is useful for conditions involving excess mucus or phlegm. Fenugreek has bitter principles and contains saponins, which have dissolving and loosening properties. This may explain why this herb has been used to help dissolve and expel thick or hardened mucus. Fenugreek may help expel toxic waste from the lymphatic system since mucus secretions come from the lymphatic system. Mucilage is also helpful in the digestive process.
Fennel is an aromatic herb that is especially useful for stimulating the digestive process. This herb has a long history of helping overcome colic, gas and other digestive disturbances. These volitile oils also appear to stimulate the lungs to eliminate phlegm. This process is known as expectorant action. Fennel also has diuretic properties. Historically, fennel has been used in cases of persistent cough and bronchitis and may also have anticonvulsive properties.
Mullein is one of the major herbs helpful in treating lung problems. Used by the lndians for lung problems, mullein is mucilaginous with a strong affinity for the lung tissue and the lymphatic system. This herb, useful for all respiratory and pulmonary problems, appears to loosen mucus and move it out of the body, as well as nourish and strengthen lung tissue. Mullein has been used to help reduce swelling in the lymph nodes as well.
Boneset is an old Indian remedy with aromatic and bitter qualities. As a laxative, diaphoretic, febrifuge and expectorant, boneset has a history in treating fevers, influenza, catarrh, constipation, night sweats, bronchitis, sore throat and chills. This herb got its name from its use in cases of "bone break fever," a type of influenza where the bones felt like they were going to break.
Horseradish is a pungent, heating aromatic, similar to capsicum and ginger. The great herbalist Samuel Thomson recommended horseradish as an alternative for these two herbs in his therapy.
This class of herb has a profound impact on digestion and circulation. Horseradish stimulates the flow of digestive secretions and causes an increase in blood flow to the extremities. The Chinese used this herb to aid in the digestion of fats.
Horseradish also appears to have a strong stimulating effect on the respiratory membranes, causing them to expel mucus. Historically, this herb has been used for bronchitis, catarrh, constipation, coughs, hoarseness pulmonary complaints, sinus troubles, wheezing and whooping cough.
This formula is best used in frequently repeated doses of two to four tablets every two to four hours. Jeanne Burgess thinks it is even more effective when combined with another formula sold under the trade name PLS II. We have also found this formula more beneficial when combined with garlic, especially for chronic coughing and Iung congestion. AL-J is also found combined with CC-A and IGS II in the product CC-A Relief.
