Chronic Fatigue/Epstein-Barr - A Herpes Virus

By: Jim Jenks, HMD

A virus of the 80's and our rundown immune systems, Epstein-Barr, became more easily identified by a blood test developed in 1984. Epstein Barr is associated with infectious monomucleosis, 'mono' or the kissing disease. Chronic Epstein Barr virus, CEBV, for short has the following symptoms:

Stress triggers these symptoms which we know also lowers the immune system. Th usual scientific "get rest and taken an aspirin" doesn't help. Antibiotics do not help and lower the immune system. It is estimated that 75% of all adults over age 30 have been exposed to CEBV and now carry it. If our immune system is up, CEBV is down and we do not suffer. However, the biggest complaint in Dr. Jenk's office every day is fatigue.

Dr. Arthur Kaslow, M.D. treats CEBV with shots, diet and helping the liver.

The following are food suggestions in conjunction with these historical uses:

  1. B's, B-complex, normal B1 (Folic acid) and B12 extra
  2. Amino Acids: L-Cysteine, L-Cystine, L-Arginine. Take with a complete amino (just like B vitamins)
  3. Immune Maintenance or Target Immune, normal, unless severe.
  4. Echinacea/Golden seal/Garlic - maintenance dose, more if severe.
  5. Vitamin C - extra for 3 weeks, then normal dosage.
  6. Beta Carotene - extra dosage.
  7. Minerals/major & trace - plus extra zinc.
  8. Bee Pollen/Spirulina - normal dosage.

Dr. Kaslow suggests an allergie type diet. This is eating only four ounces of any food at any meal and spread these foods over several days. Natural foods are a must such as vegetables and fruits and NO junk foods. This food limitation helps with food allergies causing a malfunction of the white blood cells, lymphocytes. This reduction of white cells lowers the immune system and thus opens our back door to CEBV as well as Candida and other degenerate dis-eases. This diet makes sense then for anyone who has less than optimum energy and recurrent colds and infections.
