Garlic

Russian Penicillin, Reduces High Blood Pressure, Worms (Antibiotic)

Since the Dark Ages, Garlic has had a well-deserved reputation for its ability to help the body fight off disease.

Remember when folks thought Garlic worn around the neck could ward off evil spirits? That was because they thought diseases were brought by demons, and they knew Garlic kept illness away, so they thought they were driving away evil spirits.

Now, Garlic is recognized in scientific circles for its infection-fighting ability, both bacterial and viral infections. In recent years, the Soviet Union shipped in 500 tons of Garlic to cope with a flu epidemic, and it has been dubbed "Russian Penicillin." Garlic is also a good source of selenium, which has been known to combat poisons in the body.

Garlic contains more germanium, an anti-cancer agent, than any other herb. In tests with mice and rats, Garlic-fed groups developed no cancer, where non- garlic-fed groups developed some cancers. In Russia, Garlic was found to retard tumor growth in humans.

In regulating high blood pressure, Garlic opens constricted blood vessels, reducing the likelihood of a blood clot or jammed corpuscles causing a heart attack. This is the opposite effect to that caused by cigarettes, which constrict blood vessels, shut down circulation, and increase the chance of a heart attack. Tests at the University of Michigan also show that Garlic reduces cholesterol levels in the blood.

In addition to these benefits, Garlic has proved effective in getting of intestinal worms and parasites, and in changing the balance of bacteria in the colon from putrefactive to beneficial.

Before we leave Garlic, I'd like to mention that Garlic is extremely heat- sensitive. Even just a little more than 100 degrees destroys some of its valuable properties. This is why Nature's Sunshine buys all the heat-sensitive herbs from Botanicals International, since they use the nitrogen cooled grinding process that ensures that the herbs will not be heated up as they are reduced to powder.
