Stop Smoking Program

The following herbs, Nature's Sunshine herbal combinations, diet recommendations, and lifestyle changes have been historically used by many people over the years to "kick the habit" of smoking.

Blood Purifier
A good blood purifier is necessary to cleanse the blood and remove the toxins from the liver, spleen and blood in order to remove the nicotine from the system. Examples of blood purifiers are herbs that are bitter such as black walnut, chaparral, cascara sagrada, special formula #1, BP-X, and BP-C.

Bulk Cleanser
A good bulk colon cleanser is necessary to cleanse out any old matter that has accumulated in the small and large intestines. The old matter can contain toxins and mucous that could trap old toxins and keep the intestines from being clean and moving properly. A good colon cleanser would be psyllium hulls.

Herb for Taste
A type of herb or herbal combination to use in the mouth whenever cigarettes are craved is a good way to help eliminate the need for the nicotine. If liquid herbs are used in the mouth the taste of the nicotine becomes bitter and the user no longer enjoys the taste. A good herb to use for this is liquid licorice.

Herb for Habit
In order to stop smoking one must first desire to quit. Next is to break the habit of needing to hold a cigarette. Sometimes putting herbal tinctures between the fingers where the cigarette is held helps stop the need. A good herb for this purpose is peppermint oil.

Multi-Vitamin
A good multi-vitamin is excellent for replacing the nutrients lost due to nicotine. Smoking can reduce the amount of calcium, iron, B-complex and other vitamins and minerals in the body. By using a strong supplement the body can rebuild itself quicker. An excellent multi-vitamin might be Super Supplemental by Nature's Sunshine or Lightning Tablets by Marine Minerals.

Nutrition
It is suggested that people who quit smoking go on a very clean diet to further assist the blood cleansers to cleanse the body of impurities. The Ideal Diet is an excellent way to rebuild the body with nutrition.

Relaxation
There are many ways to relax. Hot tubs and saunas, swimming, walking, jogging, meditation, audio tapes, yoga and other techniques. B-complex is excellent to help with relaxation as well as herbs such as valerian root, hops, and chamomile.

Once you have decided it's time to quit smoking you might need a little help nutritionally. Anything to help cleanse the lungs and bronchials such as mullein or marshmallow may be beneficial. Stimulating the immune system with Vitamin C and A as well as herbs such as echinacea and pau d'arco might be beneficial as well. A "Positive Attitude is the best way to "beat the habit".
