Vitamin E is vitally important during pregnancy. To maintain life, the US RDA is 15-100 I.U. per day. Good results have been obtained with clients using 600-1600 I.U. per day. (We are trying to do more than maintain life ... how about improving health ... hence the larger doses.)

This vitamin increases oxygenation at the cellular level, and helps to keep veins clean (thus reducing the chances of developing varicose veins). It is important to get the d-alpha tocopherol to ensure maximum bio-availability. If you have never used Vitamin E, you should either start low (100 I.U. per day for several weeks) and build up, or have someone test you with Vitamin E using nutritional kinesiology to determine your need for the vitamin.

Too much Vitamin E too quickly can make high blood pressure worse, as well as cause problems in people who have had rheumatic fever.

100 IU per day at the beginning of pregnancy and building up to 800 IU per day at four months gestation is recommended.
